Okay I'm not sure how this will roll but I am going to give it a try. Here's the plan: I am going to have my mentors quickly review letters and sight words using flash cards and then give a quick five minute assessment
which will be stored in individual student notebooks. If any student gets 100% I will check for accuracy and give out a certificate the following week and we can all applaud these students. Will this work? I will get back to you on that!

Fran,
You are really on to something here. I've established my mentor group..now we have to work out the specifics. I am really looking forward to your packet. Also, are you using two sets of mentors...one for the morning class and another for the afternoon class? So far I just have my afternoon kids covered. Thanks for your constant inspiration!!
I check in on student high frequency words weekly as well. It has been great for their learning and parent communication. I have a regular parent volunteer come in on Fridays and pull each child into the hallway one at a time. She goes through our Fountas and Pinell word lists and the first 5 each child misses go on a list attached to their homework. If the word is read correctly, it gets circled. I change the marker color for each month to keep track of when they learned the word. Hope this works for you!
Cindy,
My partner has another fifth grade mentoring her class. I think it works with any group of kids from 2nd grade and up. I check think you have to establish rules and be as systematic with instruction as possible.
Hi Fran! I can tell how inspired you feel and I am excited for you and your students. I think this is going to be a great journey for all of the kids and you! Those 5th graders are going to feel so smart and helpful! The kinders will love having a 5th grade tutor. I can't wait to see the amazing packet you will be selling!
I have 2nd grade buddies! I hope they can do some of the ideas you have!
Thanks for being such an inspiration!
Dear Freckleteacher,

This is wonderful! I can't wait to see the packet!
Do you sale this anywhere or could I get a copy via email? I love it!
I love this. Really interested in purchasing and anxiously awaiting the digital download.
Hi Fran,
I'd love to use your easy assessments here. Have you posted them on TPT, and I missed them?
