Calling In Pete for Intervention

Help me understand the adoration my kids have for this cool blue cat. Honestly, using Pete on my bingo boards was inspirational. My kiddos are so motivated by this class icon. What I like best about this is they covered his red shoes and I could still see if their bingo chip was on the right word since it was not covered up. At the end of the game I put them in partners and they "read' their board for additional practice. Why is the word "the" such a challenge for some of my students?

Great BINGO board Fran! Using Pete is genius! I also like how the word still shows. I too have found that some kids have trouble with "the". Weird! We sing it and spell it on a regular basis. I also make fluency boards and have kids cover words quickly with clear plastic chips. They are very good at it. Keep up the good work with your struggling learners. They are so lucky to have you!

Fran,
I ditto Freckleteacher and would add WE (teachers) are lucky to have someone like you to help keep us motivated as we struggle at times to help the little strugglers ;). THANKS for all you do!

Just found your blog! Love the material you have created. Is your material for sale or is it free to download. I am having trouble figuring out how to download. I visited teacherspayteachers, but I didn't see the same material there.

I'm sure you already sing this, but it seems to help my kiddos to say this chant:
"You can say thu (like we do in Texas), or you can say the (long e) sound, but either way you spell it T H E. So said phonetically, it would be:

You can say thu
Or you can say thee
But either way, you spell it T-H-E!

I have to admit Fran that when I first saw Pete the Cat on your blog, I was resistant. I thought...I don't need any more books. I already have hundreds. Well, MAYBE I could check it out from the library! So, I did. My kids absolutely LOVED it. In fact they continue to sing the song and make new songs to the tun. Thanks for getting me hooked!!!! =)

The pumpkin activities are precious! What a fun way to get the kids to learn their skills. The Magic Mentors are a fantastic way to the kids to work together and learn together.
