Many teachers have very little difficulty teaching the standard for more and less. My students have had limited experiences with numbers and need a scaffold to help them understand this concept. What do we do in our room? My teaching partner came up with the idea of having them compare their towers so they would clearly see which number was more and which was less. Let's see if this middle step helps them with this. Turkey Day is around the corner so I used DJinkers graphics that were ideal for this season! I LOVE the visual!! Most of my students do just fine w/ this concept but i do struggle if they are not just getting it!! How simple -- LOVE IT!

Fran would you mind if I put this in SMART notebook to use as a focus lesson for my kids? I would credit you for creating it. I would just use it for my own classroom.
I too use this method with my students. I actually teach it whole group. I had each student a baggie with a designated number of blocks in each one and I ask the students to build their towers and to count how many they have. I then ask the students to turn to their partners to discuss which one has more and which one has less. Also to build oral language and higher order questions I ask the students how do they know which one is more and/or less. I love the way you have incorporated a work mat, spinner, and cute number cards to make this a center. I hope to able to use this in my classroom. Thank you for the resource.

This is wonderful! I just tried it out with my kinders today and it went well. Having the blocks makes it more concrete for them-they liked comparing towers. I will be thrilled when my whole class finally understands the words more/less. Thank you!
