The Kids Were Excited But the Teacher Went Crazy

Okay so one of my favorite blogs Growing in Pre-K suggested this fabulous pumpkin activity. As I mentioned before I did not expect much to happen but I loved the idea and decided to give it a shot. I talked about this in a previous post. Well hold on because yesterday two sprouts appeared. I almost had a stroke and wanted to see if the kids would notice on their own. Yup, they saw the sprouts and freaked out just like I did. Then I came into the room this morning and they had grown so much that I was screaming with happiness. I guess I lead a dull life.
So the kids saw this when they came in and were stomping on each other to see. I am loving this experiment and I hope you try it next year. By the end of the day I swear the sprouts had gotten even bigger. Thank you Growing in Pre-K .Hop over to this blog to check out her pumpkin plant. I am so jealous  amazed by her results. Wish the lady with the black thumb good luck! I might have to take this home over our break!

WOW! I am seriously impressed! Why did I send my pumpkin to the compost pile? *sigh* next year....

I saw this on Pinterest and was going to give it a try. I have an extra pumpkin outside and keep forgetting to take it in to school. I'll have to remember this morning. I'm so glad it worked.

Hi Fran! So glad you had success with your pumpkin experiment. I'm not much of a green thumb either but I want to do this next year, too! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for all these comments. You have to try this because it is so cool to see. Once you get sprouts it really grows quickly. I wonder what else I can do similar to this for the next project!

Fran,

We tried this and it is AMAZING!!! Our pumpkin sprouts were without a doubt bigger at the end of the day than when we first observed them in the morning and I have adult witnesses to prove it! Hahaha! We have one pumpkin that has 7 sprouts! I am so glad I saw this on your blog! It will be a MUST do every year for me!

I would plant it fairly quickly into a pot. We did this and our pumpkin started to decompose within a week of sprouting. But also, maybe I did something wrong too. :) Good luck with yours!!
