Am I the Only Teacher Alive Who Does Not Know This Trick?

Is this not the cutest child in the world? His mom is my friend and that is why I can post his picture. He's wearing the Indian headband he made which is gorgeous but look at the back. My girlfriends next door showed me this idea which I have never seen in my life. They told me that have been doing it since the dawn of time! Now my headband addiction will be out of control. Some of our kids had a really hard time patterning these and  I can throw their formal assessments out the window. This is a much more valid way to see if they can apply these skills. If you know about this why are you keeping it to yourself? If you don't- I just changed your life and rocked your world! A big shout-out to my friends Krista, Alicia, and Belinda. Love you guys so much!

It was a secret to me too!!
I use sentence strips for my headbands... already cut and I just staple to the correct size.

That is awesome! This is so much easier than putting 2 strips together and then have to worry about getting them to be just right. Thanks for sharing!

I haven't seen this done with paper fasteners, but I have seen it done with a rubber band stapled inside a flap of paper! It works great, except when the rubber band starts pulling on and gets stuck in the kids hair, LOL!
To make it work with a flap, just lay the rubber band on top of the edge of the headband and fold it over. Then staple it down. Do the same thing on the other side, too, and you won't need the paper fasteners at all!

It's true....everything I learned really is from kindergarten! :)
Great tip. I love sentence strip headbands. We do anything with a sentence strip and my class thinks it is a head band.

I do know this tip and have been using it for a long time but I have also been teaching since the invention of sentence strips, ha ha!

Great idea. I love a good problem solving tip.

The tug from the rubberband doesn't rip the paper though?

My world is officially rocked! This comes at just the right time, too. We are making Indian/Native American headdresses today and I could not for the life of me figure out what to do about keeping them on the kids' heads! Thank you so much for sharing this! I'll post a pic soon to let you know how it worked out for us. :)

I've been using this for about 20 years. Learne it during my first year of teaching Kindergarten. i love that I can set them up ahead of time. no running around trying to staple. the extra piece.

I know. This is life changing for me because I make everything into a headband. I am so ridiculous. This will only feed my habit and make it easier for me. Look at world!

Ha! Nope, never seen this "trick" before but you can bet that I might just try it the next time we do a "crown". :-)

I love this idea, but I just use staples instead of brads. Brads I'd have to pay for, but the staples are free :) Stapling is also MUCH faster!
