Scissor Practice Made Simple!
So here is a simple activity we are doing with our ELL's tomorrow to allow them to have more practice with scissors. We have a rigorous curriculum to teach and need to get as much accomplished as the kids can handle.
Our children need to work with scissors and just cut straight lines under supervision. We want our students to be able to identify these school supplies and use the linguistic pattern you see here. This will help to build their fluency. For the beginner, labeling the object is a starting place. The other pattern that goes with this is "_______ are in my my backpack." Pick and choose what will be useful for your students.I like running the backpack on colored paper and having the kids just color the school supplies. It looks cute to run them on a variety of colors and to make this an easy board for the beginning of the year. We have 31 kids and this really makes it challenging to come up with easy projects they can do with some independence. I will try to post this later if you want it! Have a great day of teaching.
Thanks for your patience today. I post early in the morning and now I can give you that freebie just because you are my friends. Grab it and use it with your little ones tomorrow. These graphics are done by my friend Makda and naturally they are fabulous. You can leave her a comment right here if you LOVE them cause I love her!

I want it! I have ELL and language delayed. This would be most beneficial. I hope you post it.
31 kids!!!! You are such a good person :) We have been complaining about 24. Where do you put them all? There aren't enough squares on the carpet. I would love the backpack activity. All of my kids are ELL except 2. This would be great for them. Thank you for all you share. My kids (this years and last years) have really benefited from all your hard work!
Fran- please post- This is such a great idea for the ELL's i'm still trying to figure out how much English some of mine understand. i'm getting that deer n the headlights look from a few.
I have 32. Are you by yourself like I am, or when you say we have 31 kids, does that mean there are two of you at the same time?
Yes please....this is a super activity for "back to school".
That is genius! It will be perfect for my K4's. I too have 31 students. I so dread the first cutting activity. If you post this tonight, I'll be doing it in my classroom tomorrow! (On my first 'kid' day of school...) Thanks, Fran!
Sorry to bother you but ...is there a download for this? Or is it in one of your Teacher pay Teacher items?
Thanks!!
Perfect for the story,"Look out Kindergarten, Here I Come" in our unit...so clever! Do you know the song, "I Love My Backpack"? If not, I'll get it to you.
Hey Fran - this is definitely something I could use with my sped class -
I have a question about your abc book in your TPT store- can you shoot me an email to chat?

Hi Fran,
Thanks for this. I am seeing soooo many of mine in need of cutting practice. I linked one of our newer K teachers to your site today. I am sure she will appreciate this download as well. Tell Makada she does FABULOUS work and we can't wait for her to get a set of artwork out for us to use! ;-)
Hello Fran! Thank you so much for this! Your blog is very good! I am Christina, a kindergarten teacher from Greece. Many kisses from here!

Thanks Fran! I actually have several students in my class this year with VERY limited English. This should help!!!
All of your stuff is awesome! Thank you for inspiring me and making me a better teacher!
Fran...I just picked up this activity. I remember how tough it was last year for some to cut. This will be great that first week. I plan on using the sentence prompt too because I also will have many ELLs in my room and all KinderKids need practice with speaking in complete sentences.
Thanks for sharing!
