Kindergarten Common Core... A Great Resource

Have you seen this resource? It looks like something I might have great use for as I help teachers in my district align to the Common Core State Standards. I have not seen anything quite like this and it might simplify our understandings. This book is filled with activities, worksheets, and even posters to help you wrap your head around these new standards. If your are curious about this you can check out this link and see a sample of the book to see if it meets your needs too. Click on Kindergarten Common Core and see what you think. Leave a comment because I want your thoughts.

I downloaded the first grade book last night and it is amazing! It is a great resource to use with existing curiculum as well as the amazing common core packets I purchased on Tpt. The graphics are really cute too:)

I thought I was purchasing the book, but clicked on download by mistake. Glad I did!

Thanks for sharing such a great resource! I am going to ask our PTO to purchase one book for each grade level! I can't wait to see it!

Oh my goodness Fran! I knew it was going to be released, but have not had much time since school started to look for it again. Thank you, thank you for posting about it! I am downloading it now as I type! I'll let you know what I think! Thanks again!

Love the book so far! I am trying to map out how to use every activity by May. It can only help, IMO. :)

Love you Maggie! It looks like a lot of stuff but pretty explicit and we could use a little less work...right?
LOL Fran

It looks great! I wish I didn't have to print it all, though. I guess I will buy new color ink before I buy.

I totally understand the "Whoa Nellie" on the printing of this dinosaur, but think I'll send off to a printer. I hope everyone is using the %off code! It is CORE15 for 15% off. And Fran, I am totally for less work! lol

Thanks for the code Mags but remember you can pick and choose what you print. It gives you a starting point for common core but remember there is more to it than worksheets... right?
We need to use more nonfiction and address text based questioning in a better fashion. Okay enough of that!
Thanks for all that you offer up!

Fran, your worksheet comment hits the nail on the head. For example, with more/less, the kids should be able to manipulate objects to use a matching strategy. I also worry about decontextualizing things. At first I liked the word/picture match (the graphics are high quality throughout)but then I asked why not teach that in a book - who's to say there's any transfer from the game to an actual comprehension strategy? Also, the standards posters don't have a graphic. We post ours for the kids (not just administrators) so we created images for each one. And last (hey, you asked for comments!)I worry that we're ignoring mathematical practices (although they could be in the book but not the sample). But with 600 pages, there's definitely some gold in there.

The preview looks nice. Nice to see the "cute" worksheets. Looks like something from TPT. Looking at the k math I found it funny they used tally marks. I thought I read that tally marks are not a part of the common core....I still use them. I could be wrong though. Thanks for the heads up!

Thanks for the heads up about the resource & the discount. I am also kinda leaning towards not so much worksheets but actually understanding the concepts. Its all very overwhelming yet, Im sure we do 85% of it every year. It would be just understanding what pieces to change to make the last 15%.

Is it sold locally yet or at B&N, I am a girl that likes to flip through a book before I own the book lol. esp it its MY money!! ha! Stingy like that ....

I did LOVE the questing posters ....I bet there are GREAT things to just "pull" right out and other great things to just "remember" but find a better "hands on" way to teach.

Thanks soo much for sharing!

Well said Sarah! I am learning so much as I study CCSS. Right now we need to understand the big shifts from standard based learning to this. A big push is bring non fiction back in and doing literacy across all content areas. I will post about this soon. We have to do the work ourselves so that it reflects our classroom, wrapping it around strategies that are already effective.

Wow, the preview looks pretty good! I'll have to wait on getting it, way tooooo much going on in my head with TK! Once things settle down, I'll take another look.

Oh snap. I just purchased it but didn't see the coupon code :(

Anyhow, I couldn't agree more with your comment about understanding the shifts from standards based instruction. Our school is big on this. Our principal has been providing a million and one work sessions on switching over completely to CCSS, being careful not to overwhelm us all. We've been using the term "crosswalk" a lot lately. We've also been heavy into mapping.

I can't wait for your upcoming post you mentioned, as I am always an eager beaver to learn as much as I can about CCSS :)
