Don't Tally Your Chicks Before They Hatch!... FREEBIE
I love a little cut and paste to keep those scissor skills pumping. This is another farm activity with tally marks. I will use this during independent center time. My students loved holding the baby chicks at the farm and I managed to take a picture of each of them. Honestly, their faces were shining with happiness. Learning to tally is an important kinder skill for collecting data quickly. If you need other farm activities I have just put out a packet filled with kinder friendly skills for this time of the year. You can find it at TpT or Teachers Notebook. What do you like to do to teach this skill? If you want this freebie you can pick it up here.

We like to read the book Tally O'Malley. Since I love to eat, we use pretzel sticks to make tally marks. We also have a tally marks song my kiddos love to sing! =)
I think your Kinders would love our Hop to the Top dice game. It is a *freebie*. I would love for you to come grab it if you get the chance. =)

I really appreciate that you do scissor skills with your kinders! As a first grade teacher, it's nice when they have practiced before they come to 1st grade!!!! And, tally practice is always needed!!! Thanks!!!!! See you soon!!!
I like this twist on the farm graph. I am going to try it at the end of our farm unit! Thanks!
I have my firsties lay down 4 craft sticks, side by side. Then I have them take a 5th one and place it diagonally across the other 4. And then I give them a liberal amount of tacky glue to glue it into place. Then, when they dry, I have them trace the sticks as we count tally marks. It's kind of like the touch math way of kinesthetic teaching.
I just discovered your blog and I love it! thanks for all the great ideas. I would love for you to visit
Kinder-Craze (my new blog).
