Pumpkin Learning

New strategy in my room: Practice the text in the little books I make billions of times so students feel more confident when reading. Obviously the sight words I am working on are "we" and "see" but I am also talking about adding s to show more than one. We practice this as a routine every day for a week and by the time we get to the little book we know it really well!  They feel really successful and so does the teacher! The pumpkin cards are another way to practice the alphabet with a partner.

Happy Thursday! Thanks for sharing this great idea. I love how you put dots under the words. I keep telling myself I am going to do this in the classroom and I forget until I see you post it again. I have prep right away this morning and it is going to be the first thing I do!

I always love reading your posts. I take so much back to my classroom. Thank you for always sharing. I was wondering if your fall book will be available to download or purchase? I also love the ideas of putting the dots under each word. I forget to do this myself until I see your posts. I need to do this to my pocket chart strips. Again, thanks for all that you do! Can't wait for you mentor packet!

I love your ideas Fran! I spent 15 years, mostly 1st, in the classroom and am now homeschooling. I empathize with the challenges you share with struggling students, but am thankfully on the opposite end with my own boys. My 5 year old is doing 1st & 2nd grade work, and my 3 year old is doing many of your K activities, free and from TPT. He's reading your books and having lots of fun with your sight word packets! My older son started reading at 3 too but didn't have such cute materials to work with! We enjoy Pete here too. It feels funny studying K sites for a 3 year old, but yours is one of our favorites! We'd love this fall book for home too if you share. Thank you for your professional work, creativity, and generosity. You bless many!

I love your fall book too!! I made a similar one last week. I also put it in the pocket chart. I use book making as a workstation in my class, so the pair who is making the book makes it right in front of the pocket chart, on the carpet. At sharing time, the students get to read their book to the class and the kids listening echo read each page to reinforce the words. That makes everyone happy :)

Hi Fran!
I hope you are enjoying your weekend and getting ready for Halloween! It seems this holiday is lasting a long time! My kids are sky high with the holiday and now we are having a snow storm!!!Anyway, thanks for always sharing your wonderful ideas!
Any chance you are going to post on TPT for purchase your assessment sheets and ring words? I could use some help with assessments and planning for conferences!
Many thanks and take care of your self!
