Looking for Some "Egg"- Ceptional Mini Station Ideas?

Have you ever considered what you can do with plastic eggs? Students love these little containers so turn them into quick and easy learning stations that make learning fun. These containers are super cheap right after Easter so be on high alert!
Here are some of the ideas I put together today:

My kindergarten teachers loved these little math and literacy stations and I had so much fun using them with some of their students. What is it about "little pieces" that kids love so much? I had some of these plastic eggs from last year but I bought more at Walmart recently. Usually I buy them at the Dollar Store but they had slim pickings this year. The baskets that I put them in are from their and you get 3 of them for a buck. I am going to make these a flash freebie this week for a few days and then I will put them in my TpT store.
What is your best idea for these eggs? Leave me a comment and come back for the freebie if you can use these. They are aligned to the Common Core and all of them have student response sheets. I hope you like these ideas as much as I do!

  1. Wow Fran these centers look amazing! I only have the carrot and duck "eggs." I'll have to check other Walmart's for the others because they are too cute! In the past I used them for addition centers and for counting money. I adore your creations! :o)

  21. Hi Fran. I like putting magnet letters for sight words in them. Children unscramble the word and write it on an egg on the recording sheet and color the egg the same color as the plastic egg. The plastic eggs are numbered and the ones on the recording sheet are also numbered. Cynthia Hart

  28. I like to make "shakers" out of Easter eggs to create a different type of "listening" center! Create sets of 2 by tucking paper clips, cotton balls, aquarium gravel etc. & the students shake & listen to find the 2 eggs which match. smskdg@hotmail.com

  38. Thanks for all the ideas, Fran! I have used plastic eggs for beginning sounds. I put a small object in each of 24 eggs (one egg for one sound) then have the students "crack" open the egg, identify the beginning sound of the object and put the object into the corresponding beginning letter on a plastic Easter egg tray. The kids love the hidden objects! I have a small apple, button, cat earring, dog pin, etc.

  45. Thanks for the great ideas! I would use them for math and literacy. I would have the kids match a number to the corresponding dot picture. I think it would also be fun to make word family eggs. By sliding the onset around, the kids could make new words.

  49. These are so cute! And I haven't seen the frog ones before - I'll have to look for them! I'm thinking about my first grade kiddos and how each egg could have the letters to spell one of their words for the week and they have to unscramble it. Ooh, I could call it "scrambled eggs!"

  60. Okay friends,
You are all incredible and so clever with all these ideas. I love it. I do not have these up for the flash freebie yet. I still have to finish up the documents. Thanks for your generous words and stay connected. I want to show you one more... I can't resist! Have you seen the carrots? I am in love with those!
    I love you all,
    Fran

  61. I have those carrots! I love love love them (I use them with your center)! I bought the polka dots over spring break and was wondering what to do with them. Now I need to go on a search for the frogs. Just putting letter tiles in the eggs and making words is fun. For math I take some eggs and a tin/basket of some sort and use them to play a missing addend game. Count your eggs, hide some in the basket, and the others guess (figure out) how many you have hidden.

  64. Love your center ideas!! I like to have letter tiles in the eggs and have the kiddos solve for the mystery sight word. I also have the kids roll dice inside and add them together.

  77. I also use plastic eggs for Science. I put a picture of an animal on the outside and the kids have to open the eggs to read "yes" or "no" written on the inside as to whether that animal hatches from an egg. They follow up by drawing animals that hatch from eggs/do not hatch from eggs.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I would put a die in the frog and have students complete ten frames or make tally marks for the number rolled. You could use two dice and student can write addition sentences.

  79. I can't find them on TPT? Do you have them all in one file? What is called? I would love to purchase!!!!

  80. They are all separate files. Go to my TpT store and you will see all of them... Spilling Words, Do Bunnies Make Sounds, Ordering Eggs, and the best one is Growing Syllables. They
are all super cheap and easy to put together. Enjoy!
