Anyone who teaches kindergarten needs to download this mat. I have teddy bears that come in different sizes and this is the perfect mat for sorting small, medium, and large. This might be the kind of "math talk" you would want your children to use to build their mathematical language. I love to pull this out after reading various versions of Goldilocks and The 3 Bears. I have my students sort attribute blocks on a mat of this type too. How can you differentiate this sort? Have your students graph their sort if they have stronger mathematical understandings. Practice the following "I have more________ and you have more ________." "I have less_______ and you have less_____." "I have more____ but you have less____." Download this mat right here.
This is a mat every kindergarten teacher needs at the beginning of the year and it can be stored with attribute blocks for students to use as part of a Math Work Station. Response sheets can be differentiated depending on a students skill level. They can be stored in big ziplocks with the manipulatives. What do you think? Get this mat here and enjoy this freebie.

Thanks Fran for the new mats. They will be perfect for the upcoming bunch. Btw, for recording sheets I use the magnetic pockets from Lakeshore. They come in primary colors with a clear front. Then, I secure them to an IKEA magnetic board. Hey, how about that math benchmark?????
LOVE these! Thanks so much for sharing!

Dear Megan,
Welcome to the wonderful world of kindergarten. The first few weeks can be rough but it will all be worth it when you get those sweet hugs or when I child tells you they love you and want you to come to their birthday party. You are about to enter a grade level that is different from all others with the best teachers imaginable. I know you will be happy.
Love, Fran

Thanks for sharing all your awesome ideas!
Thanks so much for sharing all that you've shared on your blog. Your resources, as well as the other resources I've found since discovering this "webring" of blogs, have been invaluable to me. This was my third year teaching kindergarten after being an intermediate/adult teacher the previous 24 years of my career. It was like starting over, but what a wonderful new beginning. Your resources have really helped!
Thanks so much for these and for all the great ideas on your blog. I am moving to kindergarten after three years in third so I am busy collecting great ideas like yours! Just getting my blog going but you are an inspiration! Wish I could come to Vegas and meet all of you from the blog world- feels like I know you already!

Fran,
Your posts are terrific and you are quite an inspiration. I like how you think of differentiating instruction all the time. You really have a way to simplify the most complex activities into simple ones by either color coding or offering examples for the students to follow.
Thank you so much for all your freebies too!!
