A New Tradition: Freebie #1

This is my favorite way to make books. I call it "Stack and Whack" because you stack all your pages, staple them, and cut on the line to make 2 books at a time. A parent can put these together fairly quickly using a paper cutter.
Here are some simple options for filling in this book. Use what you have or just let them color the dots in the ten frame. I just know that some kids struggle with coloring and might prefer using another method to represent each number.
Does this look like something you might be able to use? It is perfect for meeting the CCSS and children can put manipulatives right inside of each circle to be sure they have the number sense to complete this successfully. This can be done during small group instruction and created again for math workshops!
Do you have any other ideas for filling in these ten frames? Please leave a comment with any suggestions. I will post this book tomorrow for you to download. Thanks for your support and here is the book. I would love for you to leave a comment :)

Fran,
ReplyDeleteI love this! I will be teaching a straight kinder for the first EVER so I know I can use this idea! (In the past I taught k/1 or first grade).
Butterflies? ALWAYS!!!
Love,
Camille
I was thinking we could use stickers or if the pages were laminated, we could use colorful pom poms; a good fine motor and just fun...lol I have been off school for 2 weeks and have done so much schoolwork, I am trying to go a whole day with no school! lol IMPOSSIBLE!!! LOve u!! Amy :)
ReplyDeleteI spent a good portion of last year working on 10-frame boards. As a special ed teacher, I am always looking for new ways to teach & practice. This looks perfect. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteFran,
ReplyDeleteThese look great! I am always looking for new and different idea for number work. I love the idea of using stickers and dot markers. Very cute. And yes, yes, yes, I always get butterflies....I already have them, and I have a couple weeks before school starts! It is such an exciting time!
Thanks,
Lee Ann
Stickers are a sensational idea, especially those little ones that drive you nuts. You could also use small rubber stamps but hummm not at the beginning of the year!
ReplyDeleteCamille: That is fabulous news! I am jumping up and down. I hope this book helps you.
Kids could use cute stamps to fill in the tens frames, too!

Polka Dot Kinders
Thank you so much for this freebie! Some ideas for filling those circles in are practicing just a dot of glue using the new glitter glue bottles that I'm seeing everywhere, using foam stickers, using small rhinestone stickers like the sticker earrings that were popular years ago, or just using paint on a q-tip or cotton ball. What do you think? :)

It's "OWL" Good in Kindergarten
This looks perfect to help our kinders with their number skills. I think the little dot stickers at Dollar Tree would work great. I always have a lot of those left over. Or use the Bingo Markers if you can't find the dot markers.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the freebie. I love the fact that you showed us some different ideas for filling it out. I often forget about those cute punches I have around my classroom. :)
ReplyDeleteKinders on the Block
Thanks so much! I'll be laminating a set or two as well.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Fran! I love it! Last year was the first year that I bought dot markers and they LOVE them! Can't wait to get this copied off! :)
ReplyDeleteLove this! I think I am going to use this as a center activity after we have gone through the lessons for extra practice...the wheels are still turning... Thanks Fran!
ReplyDeleteThese are perfect! They can be used in so many ways! Sometimes simple is definitely better and this is one of those cases! I love using the paper punches! They fit perfectly! Thanks Fran!
ReplyDeleteThe Polished Teacher
Fran, I just love your materials! Thank you for the freebie...especially one that will get lots of use....between counting 5, counting to 10 and then decomposing numbers, we need lots of fun practice like your book. I try to use a variety of things, like round stickers, bingo markers, and stamps....I never thought of the shape punches...I'll bet they would love those!! Anything to keep it interesting and fun!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I'll be teaching Kindergarten for the first time this year. I am so thankful for all the wonderful teaching blogs I have found to inspire me.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing and giving so many ideas to use this resource!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the "Math Dots" book. I think I will make one like it using a 5 frame for the beginning of the year since I teach Pre K. I can use the 10 frame book later on in the year. As always, great ideas and thanks for sharing them!
ReplyDeleteAs usual, another quality product. My kiddos LOVE your stuff and I love the ease of use. Thank you thank you thank you for sharing your time and talent.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea!!! great to use at the beginning of the year. I am going to have to try printing this from school though because for some reason my printer is putting things in that do not belong.. hmmm. I was thinking most anything could be used to show one to one correspondance. I could use connecting cubes to fill in the circles and then make a tower to match? Thank you for your posting. I am going to look forward to reading your blog this school year.
