Headbands Are Hilarious

Why do headbands make me laugh so much? I love doing these with the kids. I have made a headband for 35 high frequency words. Students trace the word and then get a chance to practice patterning. Once again, I use sentence strips since we have easy access to these and they fit any child's head. So, this year we are "wearing"

our star words on our heads as an accessory. I think they will L*O*V*E these so much! If you want a sample from the packet I'm creating here it is. I hope you like it.

  3. Cute idea! I especially love the idea of using sentence strips. It sure beats having to cut and piece together construction paper. Thanks for the tip!

  12. Fran, I love your headbands!! I've been making star word headbands but just for one special person each day. I love that everyone can have one and soooooo easy. I've been using "star words" for years but was thinking of switching to 'popcorn words" this coming year just for a change. Now I'm not so sure. I can not wait for your next packet to come out that you are making. Your talents are through the roof. . . AMAZING. Thanks again for sharing.
    Smiles to you,

  15. I love using sentence strips to make headbands! It is so easy and the students love them! This is a great idea, thanks for the freebie. I call sight words "star words" in my room and this is perfect for my star word station!

  16. I know my little ones will love these headbands.

I had another question, I was beginning to create some of my own stuff. But don't know what program would be good for this, can you suggest one, thanks

  17. Soooo cute and so fun to make. Looking forward to the upcoming packet. I love getting all your things from TPT! By the way, I saw a cute way to make dot markers if you don't have them...just use corks (from those happy liquids) and stamp with stamp pads. :)

  19. Fran, THESE ARE GREAT! Love the idea! When my kiddos were having a hard time with the #101. I changed my name to Mrs. 101 for a day (I even wore a "Hello My Name Is Mrs. 101" around hehehe), but these would be GREAT for sight words!! If there is a particular word we are having trouble with, I could become Mrs. "_____" for the day and use this activity to continuing practicing! :0) Thanks again for all of your wonderful ideas!!
PS Meredith... That's a VERY CLEVER IDEA!

  21. What, you mean headbands aren't a staple of kindergarten? Could have fooled me... haha! There is always occasion for a good kinder themed headband! ;)
