Whew! That was a big project and I hope you got something out of that presentation. I have used all those routines and strategies in my classroom so if you have a question ask away... I hope you leave a comment on the blog and any great ideas you would like to share. Thanks for joining me this morning for some professional development.
You should go back to bed for a few hours. :) We can't access it until 11:00 EST. :) I got up early so excited to start!
ReplyDeleteI am so excited and CANNOT wait!
ReplyDelete~Erica
www.sprinklestokindergarten.blogspot.com
I've been anxiously awaiting since 6:30...I can't wait any longer...
ReplyDeleteHi Fran,
ReplyDeleteI am so excited that I can hardly wait!!!! I forgot to put a note in my registration for you...sorry! I was trying to figure everything out and got distracted. Tick, tock, all I can hear is the clock! =)
Lori
Can't wait to log in and view your presentation! I had my time zones off and have to wait one more hour
ReplyDeleteI am so excited about today's presentations!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog and I am really looking forward to today's presentations!
ReplyDeleteOMG, I am viewing your resonation right now and I couldn't wait to post a WOW! This is so very cool!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI think there were so many of us waiting that we overwhelmed the server but it looks like it is back up I hope
ReplyDeleteThe language code on your bucket - can you share what that is - what is written for red, purple, etc. ? Thanks! This is sooo cool!
ReplyDeleteThe language code is B: Beginner, EI Early Intermediate, I: Intermediate EO: English Only
ReplyDeleteDoes that make sense?
Hi Fran,
ReplyDeleteIm about midway through the second presentation, but it stopped during the part about Dr. Jean (at 7:29 minutes). Do you know what happened?
I'm loving it so far, by the way!!!
Karen
contact steve who is the tech person for the virtual expo. I am so sorry. That is so frustrating!
ReplyDeleteFran - it kinda makes sense for the lang code - EO - English Only? I'm thinking you have lots of 2 lang learners. We don't have too many at my school right now. I would maybe do EL -English Learner. THANKS! This is great!
ReplyDeleteHi Fran, can I stop viewing the presentation and come back to it in a while?
ReplyDeleteMine keeps stopping too...in that same spot as Kej. Bummer. :(
ReplyDeleteSure you can stop it. You've had too much of me already! (LOL)
ReplyDeleteNo, prior commitment but would much rather hang with you! I am also at the Dr Jean spot and it stopped. Hopefully later it will be working again. This is absolutely amazing!!! You ladies are just too amazing!
ReplyDeleteHow long will this be available for viewing? Until the 30th?
I am also having the same problem with it stopping. Happens about 9 minutes in to Hadas presentation too, and now I can't even get on to the other ones :( Hope it gets straightened out soon.
ReplyDeleteMine is stopping too! What do we do? Steve is tired of talking to me! I am scarred to call him again!
ReplyDeleteMine is doing it too. I think it is 7:46 in...:(
ReplyDeleteDang it!!! The whole site is down now. Maybe the traffic is higher than expected.
ReplyDeleteOkay, it's working again...phew!!!
ReplyDeleteI am sooooo sorry friends. How weird is it that I am not having a problem in the world with this. Usually I am the only one to have issues like this.
ReplyDeleteFran
Hi Fran, I am enjoying watching your presentation. I just watched the thinking map part and I love the idea of putting them on the sticks and having the kids think about which one to choose. Do you already have a document that you would be willing to share that has them all on it the correct size for the stick. Thanks again for taking the time to do this!
ReplyDeleteFran,
ReplyDeleteI maybe am getting ahead of myself, but as I look at the Math common core there doesn't seem to be a lot of emphasis on patterning, am I missing something?
Traffic is exceptionally high and it's all being worked on as we type! It just gives us some time to chat as if we were all hanging out!
ReplyDelete- Leslie
So far every video I have watched has just stopped, and then I get kicked out. I am pretty sure it has to do with the traffic. I am sad because I had the whole house to myself to watch for 2 hours, and they will be back in 47 minutes. :(
ReplyDeleteI will put the "mini maps" in my store if you want them. Just be patient with me because I am in the middle of progress reports, a training at a school, and district work that is coming due. I might run away!!!
ReplyDeleteEverything has been great! I am having a problem viewing presentation 4 of 6. Is anyone else having this problem?
ReplyDeleteDear love2teach,
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry about this but think about this- for once this is a kinder training and the whole world wants to get in on it. We need more of these provided because we are a unique grade level and no one else could do this job. It takes special skills and abilities to do this-right?
I love all of you because you are so excited to be part of this day. You are an amazing group with a skill set no one else has. Stay posted and we will get all of this resolved...pinky promise.
ReplyDeleteHello again,
ReplyDeleteTo clarify, we are able to come back and view each presentation until the 30th?
This IS super fun! too bad we all can't go out together afterwards! :(
ReplyDeleteI was looking forward to the blog expo this morning however the site has crashed!!! I've tried letting them know maybe you can check into it too?
ReplyDeleteCarrie,
ReplyDeleteYou bet! Just use your login and you can see me hundreds of times. After that the goodie bag goes away so don't leave the party without your "stuff."
How awesome is it that there are so many of us excited to learn and grow as kinder teachers that we can keep shutting down a whole site? :) I know it is frustrating having the site go up and down but what I decided to do is download the goodies so I can get printing while the site is down. I just download a few each time the site is up :)
ReplyDeleteMelissa,
ReplyDeleteI would be telling you to kiss your brain for such great thinking!
Fran
Hi all,
ReplyDeleteI agree with Melissa, it's frustrating but heartwarming to know how many of us out there love our job. Thanks for the answer Fran, I'll be grabbing my goodies!
Wow Fran, that was awesome! I loved your idea of putting poems we already do into a book format. Great job :)
ReplyDelete☼Libby
Dual Kinder Teacher
I feel like I am with a bunch of my closest friends right now. I love they we share our love for kindergarten and naturally everyone has been totally supportive. I wish we were in my kitchen together having coffee and muffins but this is the next best thing. I bet tons of you could be part of the next kindergarten expo. What topics would you love to hear more about? What do you struggle with? We need to hear from you.
ReplyDeleteThank you Fran! What a great presentation. Not only informative but a reminder that kiddos can have fun while learning! I have some new ideas to add to my room to help the ESL learners that are still struggling right now! Awesome Job!
ReplyDeleteThanks Libby and Melissa,
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you liked the presentation and I hope we do more of these in the future.
Fran, are you having fun yet? :) I don't think people have gotten to my presentation, plus it is super long. So, I am hanging out in your room enjoying the chat. :)
ReplyDelete<>< Crystal
You are a ridiculously talented presenter who needs to be my BFF. I am watching YOU now and loving it. I am super not interested in mine so I skipped it. Hadar was great and I need to hug her for all the important pieces she hit today. Student teachers must watch her presentation to be successful at our grade level.
ReplyDeletedo you have the 8 thinking maps available on your blog? That is a great tool and I heart linking it to the song!! You sounded fine - don't worry! We all get it in K!! :)
ReplyDeleteSome things I would like to learn about are:
ReplyDelete*Fitting it all in when your district is still half day
* Classroom set up/ organization especially for portable/small classrooms and when sharing a room
*How to best use mentors and/or parent helpers
Fran - I was sooo thinking that! I wish I could download these presentations to make the student teachers watch them!
ReplyDeleteKristin
PS - Thankfully, I've had no problems with it shutting down! Hope I didn't just jinx myself! :)
I will put them in my TpT store sometime soon. I just made a kinder friendly mobile that will make sense to our little ones. Please do not even go there but the song is adorable and easy to remember.LOL
ReplyDeleteLove you.
Awesome Job Fran! I watched your presentation and had no stopping or problems whatsoever! I just love the way you talk and the digital scrapbooking. It looks so great! I got many new ideas and I am very excited about doing more partner work. I even thought of an idea on my own while I was watching you! You spoke very clearly and although the video and voice dont match up, I loved having you (and Pete) there in the corner to see.
ReplyDeleteI would also love the thinking map pics for the sticks and I will wait patiently until they come to your store. Good luck with all of the things you have to finish! Thanks for hanging out in my house this morning!
Melissa O.,
ReplyDeleteThat is exactly my world. I share a room with a partner who loves me in spite of herself cause I'm a real handful and we work an AM and PM program. We have been together for 15 years and it has been such a challenge to figure out how to serve our children in the best way possible. I am still changing it up and learning...
Fran What an awesome presentation. I appreciate how you want to keep all students engaged and so many of your games seem to accomplish that. I Can't wait to try some out in my class. I was just wondering what program you use to create most of your I have, who has games or which program you use to create cards for most of your rhyming or beginning sound games.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Chelsea,
ReplyDeleteYou can make these things in a variety of programs. I use the following ones: Word, Publisher, Power Point, and Photoshop Elements. I hope that helps you.
Thanks for getting up early for all of us today! What a blast! This should definitely be happening more often - K teachers definitely rock. You rocked your presentation and it was awesome to see some many ideas that teachers can use in both a half day and full day program! Thanks for your hard work, I loved it!
ReplyDelete- Leslie
This is the third time I have tried to send this...
ReplyDeleteFran,
love your presentation...one question...how do you make the Powerpoint "active?" ...where you can circle things...
g
In PPt. you can use animation for specific objects so that when you click on them they will move a variety of ways. Once you work with it you will understand how this works and you can build activities for your specific group of kids.
ReplyDeleteHI Fran again :)
ReplyDeleteI am watching your 4th segment about pocket chart sight word with a rhyme chant and am wondering what you mean. Does the chant contain the sight word they read, or does the class chants while a student looks for a word they can read, do you tell them what word to find, do they start at the top?
I loved everything I was able to watch so far. Here in Jacksonville the site is down. I will wait to watch the rest. Thank you thank you. I definitely want to learn more about the mentors and the materials you prepared for them.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great question. So the kids all do the chant with me and then I call on someone to go up and read a sight word of his choice. He reads it, picks it up, and is hoping that something is behind his card to make him the winner. This is a game that teachers have been using forever to practice sight word fluency!
ReplyDeleteI am almost done with your videos! They are AWESOME! I am sad to almost be done!! I could listen to you all day!! I guess I will have to watch it over again! Thanks for sharing your great ideas!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Your presentation has rejuvenated me! I needed that! :)
ReplyDeleteRita
Fran,
ReplyDeleteJust as expected...you were GREAT!!! Loved your presentation. Got some great inspiration from you asl always! THANKS so much for your hard work. I know this wasn't easy to put together. Your time and efforts are greatly appreciated!
Fran!! You can come hug me anytime you want!! lol
ReplyDeleteHadar :)
Fran,
ReplyDeleteI am so excited to be able to view your presentation before all the K teachers "clogged" up cyberspace. I have a notepad of ideas to put into action in my classroom. Your popsicle stick idea is genius! I hope you don't mind but I will be sharing this with my school soon, as in Monday. :)
I really want you to present on thinking maps. Is there a possible way to do this virtually? Please....pretty please.
Thanks for making teaching kindergarten fun and engaging yet challenging and forward thinking. Loved every minute of it!
Mrs. Parker from Learning with Mrs. Parker
PS- I'm off to buy Spin Zone Spinners!
You can take any idea you want back to school. I am so excited you got something out of the presentation. The spinners are one of my most favorite things ever. I think I love them more than the kids do!
ReplyDeleteFran
Fran,
ReplyDeleteI watched all of your presentations while sipping coffee, putting on my makeup, unloading the dishwasher, and just relaxing. Thank you for validating what I do as a teacher, and for so many new ways to look at how I do games with my kids! Loved it all!
Hugs,
Maggie
Wow Maggie,
ReplyDeleteI feel like we hung out together today. You do not need validation from me. I am positive you are a gifted and effective teacher just based on many of your comments. I am so glad you enjoyed the presentation and I hope more of these happen in the future!
I watched it all with no trouble and loved everything! Really loved your presentations. With my group of still many struggling kids - I feel that I am on track and do many of things that are needed. I also got many great new ideas from you and the other presenters! Hope more are planned and just for us kindergarten teachers! :)
ReplyDeleteMy Kindergarten Kids
Just watched the presentation and LOVED it! I can't believe how many ideas I got (now I have to find the time to implement them!). I also have half-day kindergarten (although I have 2 classes that I solely teach), and I was surprised that you do too (I feel that so many K bloggers, have full-day). What does your schedule look like aka where do you squeeze all of these fabulous ideas in during such a short day with them!
ReplyDeleteMany thanks! barbara anne =)
First of all I teach like my hair is on fire which makes most people tired when they watch me. I slam through my opening and move as quickly as I can.
ReplyDeleteIt is always a challenge to get it all done and the kids go home exhausted.
Fran my head is spinning - so so so many wonderful ideas. Many of the ideas I do, but the way you presented them as to how you do it whole group is wonderful!!!! I am so excited to put so many of your wonderful ideas into practice into my own classroom. Thank you so much.

**"I teach like my hair is on fire"**
ReplyDeleteLOL!!! I love that line!
I just finished watching all of your segments after waiting many hours for the server to clear up. There are so many great ideas that I want to try.
I second the request for more thinking maps info. I would love to give these a try as well.
Many thanks for all of your preparation and hard work for this event Fran, and for being so generous with ideas and materials. You are my mentor!
Fran,
ReplyDeleteYour presentation is fabulous! I haven't finished yet, but the first two sections are great. I'm taking notes like mad. I also have 31 kiddos and I'm in CA. It is really a challenge, your ideas will certainly help.
Thanks for being an inspiration !

I am having so much fun and learning so much! I haven't had any issues with the videos. Fabulous work and thank you! =)
ReplyDeleteHi Fran!! I am LOVING the Kindergarten EXPO...I have to watch it in tiny segments...because I'm trying to finish my report cards. I LOVE being able to watch a little and then come back for more! You are amazing and I LOVE all your ideas. We need to do this again PLEASE!!! You could do one all on classroom management...Math centers..Literacy Centers, etc..so much info. to share :) THANK YOU!!
ReplyDeleteFran, Your presentation was FABULOUS!!! (cannot think of a better word) !!
ReplyDeleteI am a final year student teacher and have just found your blog! Your presentation was inspiring and i cannot wait to get into the classroom and try all of your ideas, only trouble is i cannot pick 1 to begin with!
I love your passing around the bucket idea!! Thank you for all of the wonderful ideas you have shared, so glad i didn't miss this one!!!
Thanks Kylie :)
Just finished watching your presentation! Loved all your ideas, especially all the segmenting and blending since we are working on that now. Thank you for putting it together. I am also a half day kindergarten teacher and struggle with finding the time to "fit it all in". Thanks for the inspiration!

Growing Up Teaching
Fran,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for the wonderful presentation! I have been following your blog for a long time and it was so wonderful to "see and hear" you! Your voice truly comes through on your blog! And your thinking maps sticks and song...GENIUS! I have used thinking maps for the last 3 years, but my kids have not always been able to identify the maps by name and purpose. I can't wait for them to appear in your store! Thank you for sharing and inspiring what seems like an enormous group of K teachers! May all of your other commitments go off without a hitch!
Fran,
ReplyDeleteI have not seen your videos yet - system must still be clogged BUT I read through all of the comments above and am really looking forward to watching them even more. I follow your blog and know you have so much to offer. Thanks in advance for all of your hard work. I am amazed at the response today. It shows how much we Kindergarten teachers love what we do! Thanks for inspiring us.
Colleen
Well, apparently it was a good thing that my three little ones kept me busy all day. I was able to view your entire presentation at 9pm CST with no problems. Thank you so much for all of your great ideas! I'm also off to get some spinners- love that idea that can hit on so many different skills. I would LOVE to see more on all of your thinking maps. I just learned about those through blog stalking & LOVE them!! Thank you for all you do!
ReplyDeleteGretchen
I thoroughly enjoyed your presentation and took copious notes. I cannot wait to bring some of these ideas into my classroom. My kinders are going to be so excited, and their fluency skills are going to soar! Thank you so much for sharing your expertise :)
ReplyDeleteI started watching this morning....kept getting booted out, then the grandkids came over and i am just now getting back to watching the presentations. Can't wait! I have been a teacher for a long time, but haven't been a kindergarten teacher for 25 years. I am so excited to get my kinder legs back under me. So many things are different (including the way I remember the student's behavior).
ReplyDeleteSo many wonderful ideas and so many questions! I also love pocket charts but just how many and where do you have them? How many of the different things are you using in a given day? I'm trying to picture the flow of a typical day for your students, especially how many of these different things are you able to get to in a typical half day.
ReplyDeleteI try to slam through them quickly once we have learned how to do them and I maybe do 3 in a morning. After small group instruction I read a story, head for recess and might bust out one more before heading home. On a bad day I might only do one. It varies with the day. The important thing is to make them want to practice and keep it exciting!
ReplyDeleteI love your presentation!! My district uses Open Court and I love your blending card ideas. I have never thought of doing this before! Can you make yours available in your store???
ReplyDeleteThanks again!
Dalese Brooks
Would you consider doing a virtual presentation on Thinking maps?
ReplyDeleteI wish I could but I am not allowed to do this. This company has their own trainers who do this and do not allow anyone else to present their information. I will check into this but I think you have to have a binder.
ReplyDeleteThank you, I enjoyed your presentation very much. I was having issues with the site, so I enjoyed the nice weather and went for a ride. By the time I returned home, I was able to watch easily. You are a very creative person! I am excited to use some of these activities in my classroom.
ReplyDeleteAnother question :) Would you believe I have every tech tool you can imagine, but have never bought an ipod. I have a great smart phone (motorola Electrify) that has music capability, but would like to know what kind of setup you use. Did you buy a small speaker set to go with your ipod? I am making plans to record many of the instrumentals to accompany our commonly used songs for poetry, etc., and will use these on a daily basis as well. Can't wait to just choose a track!
ReplyDeleteFran,
ReplyDeleteLoved your presentation! You shared SO MANY wonderful ideas and I can't wait to try some of them out on Monday. Right now my brain is so filled that I can't think of any questions, but I am sure they will come with time.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
:) Ann @

Fran,
ReplyDeletethank you for an outstanding presentation. I can't wait to use them in my classroom. When you put your student thinking maps in your store, could you include the songs you used?
Thanks again,
BJ Thorn
Fran,
ReplyDeleteI have a question about thinking maps. Do your students use them to primarily develop oral language or do you take it to the writing stage? I have had students go to the writing stage but their are a few kiddos who have difficulty copying the information; even if the sheet is in front of them. Some can and some can't but all can read the thinking map. How do you differentiate?
First let me say that this is a complex program that has a ton of components. People are selling them on the internet because they think they are cute. I use them for oral language because that is a crucial need in my room but their MAJOR intent is to be used as a visual tool so kids can write. They are not art projects either and that is not their intent at all. That was a great question so the bottom line is that they are for both purposes.
ReplyDeleteIf kids don't practice the language of the map they won't be able to write anything-right?
This whole workshop has been wonderful. I really found your presentation to be inspirational. Lots of great ideas. Thanks so much for sharing them
ReplyDeleteHey Fran,
ReplyDeleteIn your presentation you meantion that you make things quickly. I was wondering what program you use to create with?
Hi Fran,
ReplyDeletelove the presenration :) great ideas for the classroom. I feel so inspired to go into my classroom and start doing this :)
thank you so much!!!!!
Hi,
ReplyDeleteI am a teacher in Australia and we are just about to start our new school year. I loved your presentation and have got some great ideas I can't wait to put in my classroom. Thanks.
I was busy last weekend so I'm just now watching your presentation. I'm amazed by you. You were one of the first bloggers I started to follow and I really don't know how you do it all. I took copious notes and my head is about to explode from all your great ideas. I need a few more hours in the day to create all I want to do. Anyway, I had a couple of questions.
ReplyDeleteWhen you talk about segmentation and creating a tree map with the class, do you use picture cards, word cards or both?
For your retelling cards, do you use just stories that you create or do you use books that you've read? Where do you get pictures to use for these cards?
I love the bingo games. I have no idea why I never thought of making my own. I'm definitely going to be doing that today. Do you have the Pete Bingo games for sell? My kids are in love with Pete.
Ok I think that's all for now. Once I've processed all this I might have more. Thanks again. I think you're amazing.
http://mskerriandherkrazykindergarten.blogspot.com/
I use picture cards for segmentation but I want the kids to say the word and then clap it.
ReplyDeleteThe Pete the Cat stuff is in my packets on TpT and Teachers Notebook.
You will find lots of these activities in my packets because it reflects the way I teach.
Thank you for all the sweet comments. I appreciate your enthusiasm!
FRAN
