Handwriting With Tears (MINE)


My kids are very young this year. Hello, someone turned five on November 30th. So handwriting has been a bit challenging in my room. They all have crazy interesting ways of forming letters. I notice that my bottom lip is a little sore from biting it when I watch them. But they are really young and need the gift of time. Here is a "sweet treat" if your sweeties need some extra practice too. I am off to work on my Gingerbread Packet! My team is waiting for their stuff. Grab it here.

    Your title made me laugh. I have young firsties this year and also cringe at all the bottom up I am seeing! I have one boy who is still mostly capitals with no finger spaces and it is December!

    Those are adorable and some of my first graders could really use the practice!!! I just had a student turn six on DECEMBER !. Which means that my other student who turns seven tomorrow is a whole year older. There is something wrong with this picture.

    I'm hearing more and more teachers talk about how young or immature their children are this year. Here the children must be 5 by August 1 to enter kinder, that is still WAY young! Of my 17, 11 of them are May, June or July birthdays. There is only 1 child with a fall birthday. I continually fight the bottom up writing, and the unique symbols they call letters. This year we are using the common core standards and while i'm not spread as thin (think 36 math skills down to 8 that must be mastered beyond a shadow of a doubt) I am struggling to get my children to think deeper or go past the surface of topics.

    I do know that I see growth and I cling to that like it's my last life line and I'm about to win a million bucks!Just know that you are not alone...

    Thank you so much, Fran! This is a super cute way to practice the lower case letters! We just had a little guy turn 5 on Friday...literally the cut-off date! Thankfully, California will be changing the entrance date beginning next school year, but not until 2014 will it be in September...

    I'm a HWT teacher...abuser? It's made handwriting a great bit easier to be sure. But lordy! Those bottom up kids at the beginning of the year! We sing ALLLLL the time.. "If you're gonna write a letter start at the top! If you're going to write a letter start at the top!...." I also use the lovely SKY/Fence/Ground paper to keep their eyes focused. Kinders are great, but the challenges are sometimes amazing. How do we do it?!
